Laura Caron, a 34-year-old fifth-grade teacher from Cape May Court House, New Jersey, has been arrested on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child. Authorities allege that Caron engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a former student, beginning when he was approximately 11 years old. The student, along with his siblings, resided with Caron between 2016 and 2020.
The situation came to light in December 2024 when the student's father noticed a striking resemblance between his son and Caron's 5-year-old child in a social media post. This observation prompted an investigation, during which the now 19-year-old former student confirmed that he is the biological father of Caron's child, born in 2019.
Following her arrest, Caron was placed on paid administrative leave by the Middle Township School District, which is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffery Sutherland emphasized the severity of the breach of trust, stating, "Teachers hold a position of great trust, and the allegations in this case represent a deeply troubling breach of that trust."
Caron is currently detained at the Cape May County Correctional Facility without bond, awaiting her initial court appearance. Support services have been made available to students, staff, and families affected by the incident.
